Clinical Resources
ACP Journal Club Reviews and provides commentary on "the most pertinent internal medicine-related articles from the leading medical journals." Site includes full table of contents and selected summaries and commentaries of articles from current and past issues, has search capability, a good content site.

Agency for Health Care Policy and Research Clinical Practice Guidelines Provides full text of AHCPR Clinical Practice Guidelines and english and spanish versions of consumer guides to the same clinical topics. Has table of contents and search capability.

Clinical Calculator Just like it sounds, it's an online clinical calculator. Provides a bayesian calculator and clinical formulas, including A-a gradient, anion gap, creatinine clearance, BMI, BSA, etc. Very useful when the need arises.

Clinical Pharmacology Online A drug database for medical professional's of commonly prescribed medications. Good content.

Clinician's Handbook of Preventive Services "A practical and comprehensive reference on clinical preventive services," part of the U.S. Public Health Service's Put Prevention into Practice campaign. Full text , well laid out and organized, with search capability. Includes full table of contents with screening, counseling, and immunization/prophylaxis info on a variety of clinical topics for both children and adults. Housed at the Virtual Hospital.

Dermatology Online Atlas A dermatologic image database offering images of more than 500 dermatologic diagnoses. Includes search engine and index. High quality derm images. Very useful.

Electronic Textbook of Dermatology Comprehensive, full text online reference text by Rhett Drugge, MD, from the Internet Dermatology Society. Includes full table of contents, search capability, and excellent content with high quality images. An excellent clinical resource.

Guide to Clinical Preventive Services: Second Edition (1996) Full text version of this report from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force provides recommendations for primary care clinicians for preventive interventions in clinical practice for a variety of clinical conditions. Includes search capability and limited table of contents. Part of NLM HSTAT.

Health Reviews for Primary Care Providers Indexes and provides links to articles and documents from the medical literature of interest to primary care physicians available on the Web. Articles are indexed by clinical topic and accessible via search engine as well. All articles listed are fully cited and have direct links to the cited sources - abstracts or full text of original articles when available, and article reviews, including links to many online journal club reviews. Created and maintained by Margaret L. Thompson, MD, MS, at Allegheny University of the Health Sciences. Excellent resource for clinical content.

IMM/Serve An experimental system for determining immunization needs based on patient criteria.

Journal Club on the Web An online, interactive medical literature review created and maintained by Michael Jacobson, MD, MPH. Provides summaries and commentaries of articles, primarily in the field on internal medicine, from the recent medical literature and includes reader comments as well. Has table of contents and search capability. Articles are primarily drawn from NEJM, Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA, and The Lancet . An excellent clinical resource.

Journal of Family Medicine On-Line "A journal of current medical therapeutics for family medicine" publishesd by Current Clinical Strategies. A full text, peer reviewed, online journal with articles on a variety of family medicine-related clinical topics. For the most part, appears more like a clinical reference text with some original contributions. Has full table of contents. Many of the articles require Acrobat Reader 3.0, which can be downloaded for free with a link provided at this site. Excellent clinical content resource.

The JFP Journal Club Includes the full text and table of contents of the JFP Journal Club, which provides monthly reviews and critical appraisals, including recommendations for clinical practice, of a selection of articles from the medical literature that are chosen for their potential to impact on the clinical practice of primary care physicians. The site also contains a good list of Links for Family Physicians, many of them annotated, to primary care web sites. An excellent site for up-to-date primary care clinical content, a great help in keeping up with the medical literature.

MedConnect: Information Services for the Medical Community

Medical Matrix - Medline A annotated and ranked listing of web sites which provide access to medline searches on the internet. Includes a review of each site, whether it's free or fee, and whether it provides direct links to download full text articles (they all charge for this!). Very useful.

MedScape Provides full text, peer-reviewed clinical articles on a variety of clinical topics in several specialties, including primary care. Has table of contents and search engine. Also provides a journal club forum, CME resources, free medline searching, medical news, printable patient education materials, and more. High on content, but little from major medical journals. Requires free registration.

The Merck Manual Full-text online version of this medical reference text. Provides full table of contents and good search engine. Laden with Merck advertising, but worth it for the clinical content.

NCI's CancerNet Cancer Information for Health Professionals Full text of the PDQ cancer info database with full table of contents and search engine. You can also search the last six months of CANCERLIT, NCI's bibliographic database, for citations and abstracts. Also has links to cancer stats and the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Excellent clinical resource.

NLM Health Services/Technology Assessment Text Provides access to full text online versions of HSTAT databases including NIH, AHCPR and more. You can access databases individually or search all or a subset of them. Very useful clinical resource.

New Drug List An annotated list of new pharmaceuticals for 1995 and 1996. Page created and maintained by Michael Ash, a pharmacist and now a medical student at UMKC SOM.

OncoLink Excellent clinical cancer resource for physicians and patients, with direct links to a large number of clinical articles and documents. Has good collection of patient education info. From the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center. Worth checking out!

Physicians Desk Reference (PDR) Full text online version, requires free registration by physicians (including DEA#), fee charged for access by others. Don't know much else, since I don't have a DEA# yet!

Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests, 2nd Ed. A full text, online reference, very useful! Authored by Drs. Nicoll, McPhee, Chou, and Detmer at UCSF.

Reuters Medical News Daily medical news source, with search capability. Requires free registration.

Family Practice Handbook Full text, online clinical reference text with full table of contents and search capability. Some subjects are covered more extensively than others, but overall an excellent online clinical resource. Hails from the Virtual Hospital at the University of Iowa.

Virtual Hospital at the University of Iowa "The apprentice's assistant," a multimedia clinical database on the web. An often cited clinical resource for physicians on the web for good reason. High on amount and quality of clinical content. Provides sources, authors, peer review status, and bibliographies for all clinical content. Well organized and maintained site, with extensive table of contents, index and search capability. Also has useful index to other medical web sites and a good collection of patient education materials. A MUST SEE!
