| Because
it will significantly reduce the amount of invasive pneumococcal disease
such as meningitis, pneumonia and others, and reduce serious ear infections,
I recommend the new Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine for all children
less than 24 months and for children less than 60 months with high
risk conditions (e.g., sickle cell, HIV, no spleen, immunocompromising
conditions, and chronic illness) and children who are African Americans,
Alaskan Natives and American Indians. I also believe that this vaccine
should be highly considered in children aged 24-59 months including
those children who attend childcare settings and children who have
frequent or complicated ear infections.
